Gurbaksh Chahal: Growing Up a Sikh Immigrant Indian in San Jose

Gurbaksh Chahal, more commonly known as "G" was born in the town of Tarn Taran, near Amritsar in Punjab (India) to Avtar and Arjinder Chahal. In 1985, his parents received a visa for America through a lottery-based system in India. At the age of 4, he immigrated to the United States with his family and settled in San Jose, California. Gurbaksh is the youngest of four siblings. Gurbaksh Chahal came from a strict and disciplined background where education was compulsory, so he went to public schools all throughout his early life in San Jose, attending high school for two years, however soon enrolling in Accel Middle College, which allowed him to enter college while finishing his high school degree.
